During the night of October 26 to 27, 2019, we will switch to wintertime. The problem, the number of accidents in France in the weeks following a wintertime change increases by 50%. Why? Night falls earlier, pedestrians and two wheels are less visible, motorists and bikers less vigilant. So be careful!

On the roads, this time change is not trivial. Road safety records a 50% increase in traffic accidents each year, the first victims being pedestrians. The most favorable time slot is peak hours on "home-work" or "home-school" trips, morning and evening.

The important thing in all of this is to see and be seen!

Advice for pedestrians: take a good look around before crossing a street. Avoid wearing dark clothes and/or wear clothes with retro-reflective strips (reflective armband, safety vests, stickers, etc.). As a reminder, the Highway Code specifies that: "Pedestrians must cross the roadway, taking into account the visibility and the distance and speed of the vehicles. They must use the passages provided for them, where they exist within 50 meters."

Advice for cyclists: take a good look around, especially at crossroads. Wear clothes with retro-reflective bands (armband, vest, sticker, etc.) It is also important to check your front and rear lights and turn them on before driving.

Advice for motorists and bikers: take a good look around, especially at crossroads. Light your fires. Adjust your speed. As a reminder, non-compliance with the zebra crossing or the refusal of pedestrian priority when crossing the road is punishable by a 4th class ticket with a withdrawal of 6 points on the driver's license, a fixed fine of € 135.
