A serious traffic accident happened on Tuesday evening in the center. A passenger car smashed two young pedestrians without safety vest - a man and a woman - on Masaryk Square at the crossing. Both of them ended up with moderate injuries in the hospital.
The accident took place before the eighteenth hour in court. The rescuers immediately took the place. "The cause of the accident is being saved," said police spokesman Jana. The thirty-nine-year-old driver sat behind the wheel of a passenger car. According to the first information, the woman was not fully involved in the proceedings. Tuesday's accident was the first serious this year, when pedestrians were hit.
They become victims of accidents quite often, only last year, 131 pedestrians died in traffic accidents throughout the Czech Republic. To dramatically improve this tragic balance would be obliged to wear reflective elements in the dark outside the village, which the politicians have approved.
"A man in dark clothing can see about 18 meters in visible conditions, if he has reflective elements on himself, the driver can see it up to two hundred meters," says North Bohemian transport expert Jan.
But for a man in dark clothes, he is almost certain that if he gets into the carriageway, the clash is practically inevitable. For example, a 60-seater car travels for only one second of less than seventeen meters, practically the entire distance to which the driver had the chance to see a pedestrian in dark clothing.
"The driver's response time is approximately one second. So, when it reaches the pedestrian, it collides, "explains Jan, why people should wear reflective elements.
In his opinion, however, they should not only wear them outside the village, as they are re-enacting regulations. Even in cities there are many places that are poorly illuminated, but that does not apply. Such a place can be, for example, the road near the middle school of agriculture.
Traffic policemen are also preparing to control the new duty.
"But first, we will focus on preventive action to get the information as close as possible among people," says regional transport police.
In the last week of February, it will be possible to meet traffic police at a number of busy places where they will be able to give away reflective elements such as ribbons or vests in cooperation with BESIP.
The new law states: "If a pedestrian is traveling outside the village in a low visibility on the roadside or on the edge of a road in a place not illuminated by public lighting, he is obliged to wear reflective material placed in such a way as to be visible to other road users Roads.” People can do something else: If they do not have reflective elements, they can get in the dark in the dark with a flashlight or a lighted mobile. That can save their lives at night.
