Yellow safety vest and reflector racks attract cyclists, but also ridicule - and are therefore not popular with all cyclists. In order that they cannot be overlooked in the dark, Volvo will now paint them.
Volvo's brand core is the concern for safety. And this obviously extends long ago to the actual customers, the drivers, to cyclists. Because in accidents with cars are usually the shortest and especially at night are easily overlooked, the Swedish manufacturer has developed a spray, which is to make the invisible visible.
The Life Paint called spray can be applied to cyclists almost everywhere: on their clothes, helmets, bags or the bike. If it is dark outside, the sprayed areas reflect the light of the car lights. The cyclists are so hard to miss.
By day everything normal
By day the spray is invisible. Ideal for all those who is not swing with safety reflective vests and special clothing, but normally dressed normally on the saddle. In addition, Life Paint should be washable and keep at least a week - no matter on which materials. Color and surfaces are also to remain unaffected, the Swedes promise.
The spray is, however, not an original Volvo invention, but is developed in collaboration with the Swedish supplier Track invent, which already sells similar reflective sprays under the brand name Albedo100.
So far, Life Paint is only available in the UK, where Volvo is currently testing the spray. According to Volvo, more than 19,000 cyclists are involved in traffic accidents every year. In Germany, the figures are still higher: according to the Federal Statistical Office, 71,420 people were injured by bicycle in 2013 alone (more recent figures are not yet available).
The spray is part of an ambitious target set by the Swedish manufacturer: By 2020, no one is to be killed by a new Volvo. Life Paint could do its part when numerous cyclists use it.
