"We also have the right to live home to our families"
Last Wednesday Nickels, 36, found out that an old colleague was hit even in safety vest and received several fractures. Then he could not be silent anymore.
- I felt that enough is enough, no fucking time. Can it reach a single one of these simpletons then it's worth it?
"Believe it or not you’re damned; we also have the right to come home alive for our children and families".
Nickels did not hold back when he wrote a Facebook Posts on Wednesday after learning that an old colleague was hit by road works even with wearing a reflective vest.
But really, he was not surprised.
- It is surprising that it does not happen ten times a day, he says.
"Be blue in a month"
Nickels describe the former colleague as a very experienced and knowledgeable. It does not help how professional you are, he says.
- Firstly, it is too fast past the road works, but then it is this constant all engaged. Very many have their focus in their phone or whatever it is they're doing.
With almost 18 years in the industry Nickels has also been close to being hit several times. Once he was throwing himself to get away - and the passing car's rear-view mirror hit him in the side.
- I was blue in the ribs in a month.
To ensure improvement in driving schools
The post on Facebook on Monday had been over 4500 times. Now Nickels hope that the message will reach even those who have reached it: motorists.
He also hopes that driving schools should address the issue of road works clearly than is done today.
- This construction work zones is basically just a parenthesis at the driving school. There must be something in the end also, he says, and continues: - We have reflective clothing, requirements for buffer zones and much more. But it has no importance whatsoever unless motorists respect that.
