Even though the calendar spring has come, it has to be admitted that warm weather is still lacking. However, many road users think that the dangers on the street and the road end with the cold season. This is, however, a mistake, as pedestrians need to take preventive measures at all times of the year.
The "Don't be a moose" project promoting the culture of traffic safety in Lithuania urgently reminds that pedestrians must always wear reflective equipment. It should be remembered that warm and occasionally sunny spring days are replaced by evenings with rain or even snow. Visibility is such changeable weather is poor and you should not leave reflective equipment at home casually.
It should be noted that pedestrians and cyclists need to wear a reflector, carry a lantern or wear a bright reflective vest during the dark hours of the day. Of course, choosing the reflective material is the most convenient and probably the most effective.
Even in the spring mood, it is important to know that the reflector does not emit light by itself, but only reflects it. For this reason, light reflectors should be worn on the body at approximately the height of the car's headlights, slightly above the wrist and at the lower leg. Also, because the roadside pedestrian must go in the opposite direction of traffic, the reflector should be worn on the right side of the body.
Also, it is advisable to choose a high-quality reflector marked with a special code EN13356 by the European Union standard. Also, it is recommended that you pay attention to the name on the label when purchasing a reflector. Often manufacturers and traders use synonyms such as "reflective accessory" or "bright ribbon" to mislead the consumer.
With spring coming, store shelves are often topped with stylish and striking designer accessories. However, it should be remembered that most of these tools are for style only and do not guarantee great visibility in the dark.
The project "Don't be a moose", which promotes the reflection culture in Lithuania, encourages us not to look at the importance of road safety casually. After all, a single reflector can save a person's life!
