Everyone knows the "men in yellow", which ensure cleanliness in the city center and on the Rhine promenade. These are now celebrating an anniversary. For ten years, there is the garden group.
"Cleaning is just a task. We also cut hedges and rose beds, mow lawns, fill gravel paths and irrigate the green space. "says Peter, who heads the group. And casting the plants was a special challenge in the hot and dry summer.
Currently, seven people with Handy cap belong to the team of Peter. Alexander Wagner, Frank, Sven Schmidt, Thorsten, Tobias, Dennis and Steffen like their work. "Working in the fresh air is fun," said Frank.
On the occasion of the anniversary Mayor Peter accompanied the group on Monday over the Rhine promenade and through the city - equipped with a reflective vest and tongs. "We are grateful that we see you every day in the city. In wind and weather you ensure cleanliness," praised the mayor. An elderly lady told him that she was always happy to see the "men in yellow" because they not only cleanse everything, they also always have a smile for them. Peter said.
The mayor diligently picked up paper, packets of cigarettes and bottle caps and wondered about the cigarette butts. "That's alarming when you know how a fag can harm drinking water," he said. The members of the garden group go through the city three times a day, traveling from eight to 15.30. They spend their breakfast break at the team Center, having lunch at KLK's canteen.
The garden group was an important step on the way to inclusion, explained Peter, a trained car mechanic and master chimney sweeper, who after a retraining became the head of the garden and landscape team. "The goal is to get the boys into the general job market," he said. That worked so far once. Within the group, the employees are encouraged and trained, learn how to use garden tools and machines that are used for garden maintenance.
After the tour, the team planted a sweet chestnut - Tree of the Year 2018 - Park as a thank-you and sign of their long-term cooperation.
