The police are calling for vigilance after two accidents involving cyclists that occurred earlier this week in Blois.
The Blois police station is sending out a message of vigilance to users of bicycles, but also scooters and motorcycles. Two accidents involving cyclists occurred in 24 hours in the city and remind us how vulnerable two-wheelers are, especially at nightfall. The first accident occurred on Monday morning, shortly before 8 a.m., on the avenue de Vendôme, when the day had not yet fully risen. A motorist who wanted to turn right to reach a parking lot did not see a cyclist arriving and ran over him. He is a 25-year-old man who was transported to the emergency room by the fire brigade for check-ups. The second accident on Tuesday shortly before 5 a.m. had more serious consequences. The victim, a young man aged 18, was hit by a car, rue Pigelée, in Blois. According to the police, he had numerous head wounds and pain in his back when the firefighters took him to the hospital. The injured man was not wearing a helmet or fluorescent vest. In addition, public lighting is switched off in many districts of Blois between midnight and 5 a.m., which increases the risk of collision if the bicycle is not visible.
The police station recommends that cyclists wear a helmet and reflective vests (there are also adhesive strips to attach around the arms and legs). The lighting of two-wheelers is also compulsory. Bicycles and mopeds must be fitted with headlights or reflectors, white or yellow at the front and red at the rear, but also reflectors on the spokes of the wheels and the pedals. This equipment is also recommended for fans of the electric scooter. Be aware that wearing a reflective vest is compulsory as soon as night falls outside the built-up area. The absence or failure of lighting constitutes an offense punishable by fine." When a collision occurs, it is always the cyclist who loses in the event of a fall, it is worth it to equip themselves to be seen and to protect themselves", warns the police station.
