Every pedestrian, which moves at dusk along the way outside the built-up area, must have a reflective material placed in a visible way for drivers. Many pedestrians comply with the new regulations; unfortunately, people who continue to risk their lives happen. Remember that a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. The pedestrian, wearing reflective elements, becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters.

The largest number of accidents involving pedestrians is usually in the autumn. Unlit roads, lack of designated places for safe pedestrians on the road (especially outside built-up areas), and inappropriate use of roads by pedestrians themselves cause many road accidents. It happens that pedestrians enforce priority on passing cars, forgetting that the car cannot be stopped in place. Often, pedestrians do not realize that they are hardly visible on the road. It is worth recalling that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. The pedestrian, wearing reflective clothing, becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters. These extra meters allow the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian.

We would like to remind you - from August 31, 2014, all pedestrians who move along dusk outside the built-up area must have a reflective tapes placed in a visible way for the drivers. An exception is provided in the regulations: a pedestrian can move around outside the built-up area without retro-reflective elements, if it is on a road intended for pedestrians only or on the sidewalk. The new rule does not apply in the residential area - there the pedestrian uses the entire width of the road and takes precedence.

Not only pedestrians must remember to be visible on the road the same applies to cyclists and motorists. Each bicycle should be equipped with lighting - one white position light at the front, one red at the back and an additional red light in a shape other than a triangle. Although traffic regulations do not impose the obligation of cyclists to use safety helmets or reflective vests, it is worth using them. Wearing a helmet protects the head against dangerous injuries, and the reflective vest makes us visible to other drivers from a greater distance in front of the vehicle.
