To use a reflective vest when cycling prevents probably more damage than if you use a helmet. It says researcher Alana High of Transport Economics Department.
Both Safe Traffic and NPRA urge to wear a helmet, and the scientist tells Adresseavisen that there is no doubt that the helmet helps reduce injuries if riders coming out of an accident, but that vests prevents them from ending up in such accidents ;
Nonfuel safety Jackets and vests have probably greater effect, overall, the cyclists' injury risk than a helmet. The explanation is that the helmet only works against a particular type of injury, head injury, while visible cyclists have much less risk of being involved in a collision.
The researcher's arguments apply collisions between cyclists and other road users. If the runner overturns on its own, does not help reflective vest.
NPRA polls show that fewer and fewer Norwegian cyclists wearing a reflective helmet, the newspaper said.
